*Description of Responsibilities:*
Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO Jakarta Office and direct supervision of the head of the Sciences for Society (SCS) Unit, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
*(1)* Provide administrative and programmatic assistance in the coordination and implementation of two projects being implemented by the SCS Unit, i.e. Sustainable development, poverty eradication and vulnerable community empowerment in Timor-Leste through Safeguarding the Cultural and Natural Heritage and Empowering coastal communities to adapt to climate change in Indonesia and Timor-Leste. Responsibilities include:Provide administrative and financial support to manage the projects.Support the unita �s implementation of the projects by monitoring and evaluating activities implemented by partners and providing advice to ensure objectives of the projects will be met.Develop and maintain networking and partnerships with existing and potential partners in Indonesia and Timor-Leste related to activities implemented by the SCS Unit.Draft progress reports and final reports, news, website updates, etc, related to project documentation.*(2)* Provide administrative and programmatic assistance for the planning, implementation and monitoring of the upcoming Funds-in-Trust projects and other SCS Unita �s activities. These include:Assist in collecting information on activities related to programme on Local and Indigenous Knowledge Systems (LINKS) and the Intersectoral platform on Mauritius Strategy follow-up for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) implemented in the region.Draft workplans and proposals for a �Empowering coastal communities to adapt to climate change in Indonesiaa t projects in Indonesia and Malaysia, and any other projects that may be developed.Provide necessary administrative and financial support to the projects.Support the unita �s implementation of the projects by monitoring activities implemented by partners and providing advice to ensure objectives of the projects will be met.*(3)* Play a proactive role in the Unita �s fund-raising scheme. This includes search for potential donors, update regularly the donorsa � call for proposal deadlines, and develop draft proposals.
*(4)* Provide administrative and financial assistance and advice, including assistance in the provision of oversight of all administrative and financial matters related to the implementation of the SCS Unita �s projects, and ensure that all operations under the projects such as contracts, payments, travel orders, reporting and financial disbursements are in line with UNESCOa �s administrative rules and regulations. This involves working closely with the administrative unit of the UNESCO Office, Jakarta.
*(5)* Support the SCS Unita �s contributions to the UNESCO Office, Jakarta:Assist the preparation of background materials for use in discussions, presentations, meetings and briefing sessions.Draft contributions to UNESCO Jakarta Officea �s website, brochures, annual reports and promotional materials.Draft contributions to UNESCO- or UN-wide initiatives whenever they are sought.Assist in the recruitment and supervision of interns, volunteers, and any other staff to strengthen the capacity of the Unit.*(6)* Perform other official duties as may be required by the immediate Supervisor and the Director of the Office.
*Competencies:*
This position will suit a university graduate who wishes to gain knowledge and experience in local and indigenous knowledge and small island developing states within a multilateral international development agency.

*Education:* University Degree in environmental sciences or social sciences from a recognized and reputable university, with knowledge on issues related to local and indigenous knowledge, climate change, disaster risk reduction, community based development, or education for sustainable development. A Mastera �s Degree in the field would be an asset.
*Work Experience:* 4-5 years successful history of employment in environmental management and programme coordination, preferably in governmental or non-governmental agencies.
*Languages:* Must have fluency in spoken and written English and Bahasa Indonesia, in particular the ability to draft documents and express views in a clear and concise manner. Working knowledge of other languages in the region, such as Tetum, is an asset.
*Other Skills:* Knowledge of UN systems and procedures as they relate to Staff Regulations and Rules, personnel and administrative policies and procedures as well as financial rules and procedures is an asset.
