BPPT was formed by President Soeharto and initially known as Technology Division and Flight Technology (ATTP) Pertamina. The name of BPPT was established in 1978. BPPT is based in Jakarta and operated under the coordination of the Ministry of Research and Technology of Republic of Indonesia and directly responsible to the President of Republic of Indonesia. Until 2011, BPPT supported by 2,176 engineers and 5 deputies, namely Deputi PKT, Deputi TPSA, Deputi TAB, Deputi TIEM, and Deputi TIRBR. Since 2008, BPPT is headed by Dr Ir Marzan A Iskandar.
