Save the Children has worked in Indonesia since 1976 to promote health and nutrition, education, child protection, livelihoods, and emergency preparedness and response. Save the Children has grown enormously in the country and today we operate in 13 provinces across Indonesia. Our program in Indonesia has made significant progress at the national policy level. Currently Save the Children immediately need for an experienced staff to be part of our Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) support team and will be based in Jakarta.

The position we are looking for are:


1. Disaster Risk Reduction Project Coordinator (code: DRR PC a � Jog) a � 1 post, based in Yogyakarta

To support the School-based DRR project in Magelang, on planning, implementation and monitoring the project. She/he will have direct reporting to Humanitarian Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate the implementation and development the School-based DRR project in Magelang. This include managing relevant budget, procurement, staff recruitment, etc.

2. Coordinate and maintain relationship with partners (local NGOs, government, community).

3. Ensure ethical and meaningful child participation in all aspects of the School-based DRR project.

4. Establish and maintain effective partnerships with the government, NGOs, teachers, community leaders, and other stakeholders with the objective of their participation in the project.

5. Assist in conducting capacity building workshops for key SC staff members and stakeholders to understand childrena �s involvement in DRR.

6. Assist in preparation of narrative progress report and timely submission.

7. Together with the Humanitarian Manager in Jakarta, develop detailed program activities, budget activities, etc.

8. Support Humanitarian Manager on collecting data needed for assessing capacity-building needs among partners on certain thematic areas especially with relevance to DRR programming, overall programmatic and financial management, reporting and other related areas.

9. Ensure that partners submit reports to SC as required by the cooperation agreement in a timely manner.

10. Support to initiate the MdanE process for the School-based DRR project, in cooperation with the Humanitarian Manager.

11. Assist in documenting learning throughout program in written and video form to be shared with regional SC colleagues.

12. Support the Humanitarian Manager in advocacy work and assist in developing materials, publications and training manuals on School-based DRR together with relevant SC staff and partners.

13. Establish and follow-up partnerships with local organizations in School-based DRR program.

14. Supervise the School-based DRR project staff.

Occasional Significant Duties

1. Represent or act in lieu of the Humanitarian Manager in her/ his absence or as assigned.

2. Carry out additional tasks related to the project as assigned by Humanitarian Manager.

Special Requirements:
Skill and Experiences:

N Minimum 3 years working in Child Protection, Education or DRR.

N Experience in implementing DRR project is preferred.

N Strong understanding of Government structures and functions as well as general operations in Indonesia.

N Proven ability to implement school-based DRR project.



2. Project Officer (code: DRR PO a � Jakarta) a � 1 post, based in Jakarta

To support the Education in Emergencies Capacity Building Program for Asia-Pacific implementation in Indonesia including the DRR project in Jakarta and SCiIDN Emergency Preparedness and Response programs. This is a position for 9 months only (until 30 September 2013). She/he will have direct reporting to Humanitarian Manager Jakarta in consultation with the Save the Children Australia Regional Emergencies Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Humanitarian Manager in overall planning, implementation and monitoring of the DRR project in Jakarta, Education in Emergencies, and SCiIDN Emergency Preparedness and Response programs.

2. Coordinate and maintain relationship with partners (local NGOs, government, community) at national level in general and in Jakarta particularly.

3. Ensure ethical and meaningful child participation in all aspects of the Education in Emergencies project, DRR project in Jakarta and Emergency Preparedness and Response programs.

4. Assist the Humanitarian Manager in establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with the government, NGOs, teachers, community leaders, and other stakeholders with the objective of their participation in the programs.

5. Assist the SCa �s Regional Advisor for Education in Emergencies in establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with MoEC, CMPW and UNICEF for Education in Emergencies activities.

6. Play an active role in developing the Education Cluster including development of agreements, work plans, co-ordination of response activities and taking into account the cross-cutting issues.

7. Ensure that information is shared amongst cluster members and between sectors/clusters in order to improve planning, integration and implementation. This includes facilitating meetings, taking and sharing minutes of meetings and taking an active part in OCHA co-ordination meetings.

8. Assist in conducting and in facilitating capacity-building workshops related to the topic of Emergency Preparedness, Education in Emergencies and DRR/ CCA for project stakeholders and SC staff members.

9. Assist the Jakarta-based SCa �s Regional Advisor for Education in Emergencies in the implementation and monitoring of the remaining Education in Emergencies Capacity Building Program for Asia-Pacific in Indonesia.

10. Assist in the preparation of narrative progress reports and ensure their timely submission.

11. Assist the Humanitarian Manager in collecting data needed for assessing the capacity-building needs of partners in relation to certain thematic areas, such as DRR programming, overall programmatic and financial management and reporting.

12. Support the initiation of the DMdanE processes for the DRR project, in cooperation with the Humanitarian Manager.

13. Organizes project execution consistent with program objectives engaging national counterparts and building reputation for quality design and reliable delivery.

14. Assesses delivery issues and works with national counterparts to build common understanding and coordination on project activities

15. Organize statistical data on project implementation which supports transparent management of project resources

16. Assist in documenting learning throughout program in written and video form to be shared with Save the Children colleagues in the region.

17. Support the Humanitarian Manager in advocacy work and in developing materials, publications and training manuals on DRR/ CCA and EiE program(s) and other Emergency Preparedness and Response programs, in collaboration with relevant SC staff and partners.

18. Establish and follow-up partnerships with local organizations in the DRR/ CCA program (if any) and/ or in the Emergency Preparedness/ Response program.

Special Requirements:

N At least 2 years experience in Education sector with 1 year of experience responding in the first phase of an emergency.

N Experience in implementing DRR/CCA programs is preferred.

N Demonstrable ability to work with diverse group of stakeholders and develop consensus and joint working.

N Strong oral and written communication skills in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.

N Good understanding of Government of Indonesia. Structures, functions and general operations.

General Requirements (for both position) :

Education: Bachelors University Degree in social Science or other related discipline.

Skill and Experiences:

N Minimum 5 years total working experience with an (international) NGO.

N Proven expertise on working children with a good skill.

N Working experience with INGO (s) and/or UN agency (ies).

N Ability to work in a fast-paced, pressured environment.

N Proven skill in making reasonable decision.

N Proven generated timely report.

N Maintaining good relationship with key stakeholders at community and government counterpart are established and developed.

N Maintaining positive feedback from partners and other.

N High levels of self-motivation and initiative to start up new program components.

N Strong strategic and planning skills with detailed oriented.

N Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team.

N Excellent communication skill, personal and interpersonal.

N Strong written and verbal English and Bahasa Indonesia.

N Excellent knowledge of computer programme (Excel, spreadsheets, MS Power Point)
