Description of Responsibilities:
Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO Jakarta Office and direct supervision of the programme officer for Disaster Risk Reduction and Tsunami Information Unit, the incumbent shall provide technical assistance in the implementation and coordination of the extra-budgetary project under UNESCAP: Enhancing Tsunami Risk Assessment and Management, Strengthening Policy Support and Developing Guidelines for Tsunami Exercises in Indian Ocean Countries project and the Investigation of the written and oral history of tsunami events in the Makran Coastal Region project.

The incumbent shall:
Provide administrative and financial assistance and advice, including assistance in the provision of oversight of all administrative and financial matters related to the implementation of the projects, and ensure that all operations under the projects such as contracts, travel order, reporting and financial disbursements are in line with UNESCOa �s administrative rules and regulations;Provide support to the day-to-day coordination of the projects activities, i.e. assist in planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting;Monitor, Analyze and Report on the trends and activities as they affect the Disaster Risk Reduction, due account taken of the overall regional context and develop proposals for activities including project proposals for extra-budgetary funding.Provide support in the projects implementation through:Assisting in the review and analysis of term or references, proposals, and reports; Conducting review and desk studies on topics related to the projects;
Maintaining and updating the JTIC/IOTIC Web-site and develop information database of tsunami awareness and preparedness information and materials for Indian Ocean;Provide technical and logistic assistance in organizing meetings, regional and local workshops in Indonesia as well as in other countries in accordance to the projects activities;Assist in the development of deliverable materials for the projects activities;N To assist and coordinate the planning and implementation of activities and projects related to disaster risk reduction and tsunami information centre which are covered by UNESCO Jakarta Office;Assist in the development and maintenance of positive working relationships with UNESCO/IOC, ICG/IOTWS secretariat, Project Partners, UNESCOa �s partners and relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to government agencies, donors, non-governmental organization, private sectors, and local communities;N Prepare short reports, summaries, minutes of meetings, media releases, updates for website and other communication materials, and any other inputs related to the projects as necessary; andPerform other official duties as may be required by the immediate Supervisors and the Director of the Office.Competencies:N This position will suit a university graduate who wishes to gain knowledge and experience in disaster risk reduction and tsunami preparedness and response within a multilateral international development agency.N Professionalism and knowledge:N Strong communication skills - spoken and written English Strong analytical skills and ability to analyze complex issues;
Ability to identify priority activities and assignments and make necessary adjustments as required
Knowledge and skills on computer software (Microsoft words, excell, powerpoint), internet, and surat elektronik [surel/email]s;
Ability to work independently and proactively with minimum supervision, with efficiency, competence, integrity and in harmony with people of different national backgrounds
Ability to work under heavy pressure while maintaining accuracy and paying attention to details
Ability to work beyond normal working hours whenever necessary

Consistency in the quality of interpersonal relationships.Qualifications:Education: University Degree (preferable masters degree) in science, environmental sciences or social sciences in particular, from a recognized and reputable university, with knowledge on issue related to disaster risk reduction, tsunami early warning system, tsunami preparedness and response. Postgraduate degrees would be an asset.
Work Experience: 4-5 years successful history of employment in environmental management and programme coordination, preferably in governmental or non-governmental agencies.
Languages: Must have fluency in spoken and written English, in particular the ability to draft documents and express views in a clear and concise manner. Working knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia, Tagalog and/or Tetum is an asset.
Other Skills: Knowledge of UN systems and procedures as they relate to Staff Regulations and Rules, personnel and administrative policies and procedures as well as financial rules and procedures is an asset.
