Conservation International, an international non-governmentalN organization, is seeking applicants for senior level technical andN management positions to be based in Medan for the following position.
SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE LANDSCAPE MANAGERN
The Sustainable Agriculture Landscapes Manager will be responsible forN managing this new agricultural initiative in Sumatra and will serve asN the primary point of contact in Indonesia with a leading corporateN partner in the agricultural sector. The Manager will report to the CIN Indonesia Terrestrial Program Director and will work closely withN other CI divisions, in particular CIa �s Center for EnvironmentalN Leadership in Business, in implementing this initiative.N The positionN will also work closely with external partners at local and nationalN levels, and will further be responsible for establishing constructiveN relationships with local government to support project alignment withN government development objectives.
The Manager will be based in Medan, North Sumatra with frequent travelN to project sites in North Sumatra and periodic travel to CI offices inN Jakarta.N S/he will manage a small team of field staff to supportN project implementation and will coordinate closely with other CI staffN in Medan, Jakarta, Singapore, CI Headquarters near Washington DC, andN other relevant CI Offices.
Responsibilities:Project Management and Reporting -N Lead development and implementation of high quality project work plansN that will lead to fulfillment of project objectives.N The manager willN ensure timely delivery of project outputs, within budget, and willN also be responsible for reporting to donor and partner organizations. S/he will manage project staff, sub-contractors, and relationshipsN with partner organizations.Field Implementation -N Ensure delivery of high quality technical interventions in the field.This will include overseeing a series of environmental, social, and agronomic assessments that will guide project implementation, workingN with agricultural partners to identify and deliver appropriate farmerN training programs, and identifying critical natural capital withinN agricultural landscapes and developing appropriate programs to ensureN conservation and sustainable management of these areas.Government Engagement -N Establish and maintain working relationships with relevant local andN other government agencies ensure they are informed of project activities and objectives, and seek alignment of project activitiesN with government development programs and objectives where appropriate.N Provide technical support to government agencies where relevant andN appropriate.Monitoring and Evaluation -N Oversee design and implementation of an MdanE system that will generateN data necessary to track project progress, assess impacts, evaluateN project hypotheses, and inform reporting.Outreach and Communications -N Support development of external communications materials, serve asN spokesperson to describe project activities, objectives, and resultsN to external audiences as necessary, and give presentations atN appropriate conferences and events.Qualifications:A master degree or equivalent experience in agriculture orN related fields, with 5 -10 years of relevant experience inN agriculture, farmer training or extension.Experience with annual crops, preferably corn, with smallN and/or large scale farming systems.Experience in effectively working with government, NGO, andN private sectors.Demonstrated strong project management skills, includingN project development and MdanE.Excellent written and oral communication skills in BahasaN Indonesia and English.Commitment to conserving biodiversity and implementingN sustainable agriculture initiativesPreferred:Direct experience in North Sumatra province.Understanding of anticipated impacts of climate change uponN agriculture and climate change adaptation measures.Strong interest in environmental issues and eagerness toN expand knowledge.Computer skills and experience in relevant software.Networking ability and facilitation skills.The preferred candidate will be self-motivated, able toN travel in the region, and be able to meet project deadlines oftenN under difficult circumstances.Knowledge on restoration of degraded areas, forestry,N agroforestry and silvopastoral systems.Knowledge on payment for ecosystem service programs, inN particular forest-based carbon project design and development.Interested candidates should send a current resume and cover letterN addressing the required skills and capabilities (no more than 4 pages)N to: hrd--at--conservation.or.id
