ASEAN / asean.org The Association of Southeast Asian Nations - ASEAN is a regional-intergovernmental organization in Southeast Asia. ASEAN was established in 1967 at Bangkok Thailand and founded by Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Philippines. Curently ASEAN comprises by 10 countries in South East Asia Region, including Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Philippines, and Viet Nam. To support the ASEAN's projects and activities, ASEAN establish The ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) that was established in 1976. ASEC is based in Jakarta and set up by the Foreign Ministers of ASEAN. Since 2008, Dr Surin Pitsuwan from Thailand become the Secretary-General of ASEAN for 2008-2012 periods.
