ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Birda �s Head Senior Technical Advisor provides technical advice and support to The Nature Conservancya �s program in the Papuan Birda �s Head Seascape. S/he provides strategic and technical leadership and support in conservation planning and guides the overall conservation priorities for the seascape and initiatives being implemented by the Conservancy and its partners. S/he develops innovative methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks to address sustainable marine resource use and management, in particular, focusing on good governance, institutional capacity building and sustainable financing. S/he will focus on developing and guiding the implementation of the Conservancya �s transition strategy, to ensure site based programs are effectively managed by the local government, communities and other relevant partners. S/he will assist in communicating the Conservancya �s transition strategy and new direction to partners.

The Birda �s Head Senior Technical Advisor is responsible for building technical capacity in the field and mentoring local Papuan leaders within the program. S/he disseminates best practices, provides training and analyses to best implement organizational measures of success, and develops key partnerships with public and private organizations in order to identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions and best practices.

S/he will be responsible for writing up high level technical documents as well as develop position or policy papers on critical threats/conservation issues as they emerge. S/he will be responsible for ensuring The Conservancya �s work at the site level is shared and leveraged across other sites in Indonesia and where relevant the wider Coral Triangle.

The Birda �s Head Senior Technical Advisor serves as the principal contact to donors for the Birda �s Head, playing a leading role in donor reporting and donor relations for the program. S/he may be required to prepare new proposals for conservation funding in close coordination with his/her supervisor and/or philanthropy staff. In this role, s/he will support the Birda �s Head Portfolio Manager to prepare work plans and budgets in line with the Conservancy and donors, and to meet conservation deliverables in the Birda �s Head. This position will report to the Birda �s Head Portfolio Manager.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONSBA/BS degree and 10 years of experiences in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience developing good governance and sustainable financing frameworks and systems, and building the capacity of local institutional to manage natural resources.Experience with certain aspects of fundraising: identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation.Experience directing a major program of strategic importance, including management/supervision of multi-disciplinary teams.Experience working with current trends and practices in marine conservation and Asia-Pacific region.Experience in partnership development (partners, community, government, etc.); experience with high-level conservation contacts.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Mastera �s degree and 10-12 years of experiences in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience developing good governance and sustainable financing frameworks and systems, and building the capacity of local institutional to manage natural resources.Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiativesand experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives.Managing time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results.Communicating clearly via written and spoken English. Knowledge of Bahasa Indonesian an advantage.Demonstrated experience in fundraising, and maintaining donor relations.Successful experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects and objectives.Successful experience in partnership development (partners, community, government, etc) including extensive networking with high-level conservation contacts; political savvy.Proven interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.N WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT
The Birda �s Head Senior Technical Advisor may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. These conditions may require occasional physical exertion and/or muscular strain or present occasional possibility of injury. This position may also require frequent travel domestically and/or internationally, and require evening and weekend hours.
