Conservation Manager - REA East Kalimantan

REA Holdings (a �REAHa t) is a UK publicly listed company which established its first Indonesian subsidiary, PT REA Kaltim Plantations (a �REAKa t), in 1989. REAK originally focused on establishing oil palm plantations in Kembang Janggut, Kutai Kartenagara, East Kalimantan. For the year ending 31st December 2011, REAK had 25,415 hectares of mature oil palm plantings, 3,318 hectares of immature oil palm plantings and 8,315ha of land under development with reserve land area of 56,614ha, the majority of which already has HGU title.N Whilst REAKa �s mature plantings are in Kutai Kartenegara, its new estates under development are in Kutai Kartenegara, Kutai Barat and Kutai Timur districts of East Kalimantan.N REAK is targeting to develop between 4,000ha and 6,000ha per year over the next 5 years.
REAK is committed developing and managing its oil palm plantations in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. An important component of this is to set-aside conservation reserves in order to maintain the natural biodiversity of the landscape. As at year end 31st December 2011, REAK had left intact approximately 18,000ha of land as conservation reserves. These areas are managed by its dedicated conservations department, REA KON.
In addition, REAK has obtained Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) and ISO14001 accreditation for its established concessions. In April 2013, REAK will be publishing its first Sustainability Report. This will provide a clear benchmark against which all stakeholders can monitor REAKa �s sustainability performance.
REA KON was formally established in 2008 and has been run by a team of eight permanent members of staff, many of which have extensive experience of working for conservation organisations. Through the implementation of three programmes of work (Biodiversity monitoring, Environmental monitoring and Community engagement) REA KON aims to:Conserve the original biodiversity of the landscapeReduce or eliminate all negative human impacts originating within or adjacent to the boundaries of REAa �s oil palm plantationsPromote the sustainable use of natural resources by the company and people living in and around REAa �s oil palm plantationsDescription of the role of Conservation ManagerPT. REA Kaltim is looking to recruit a new Conservation Manager to be based at the REA KON office on our central oil palm plantation in Kembang Janggut, Kutai Kartanegara (5-6 hours from Samarinda). The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of activities to conserve the natural biodiversity of the landscape, maintain ecosystem functions and promote community based natural resource management within all of the REA oil palm concessions. This will include:Producing, maintaining and overseeing the implementation of relevant conservation management plans for each oil palm plantation within the REA GroupRecruiting and maintaining a team of people capable of implementing the conservation management plans effectivelyBudgeting for and reporting on all REA KONa �s activitiesWorking closely with operations and the sustainability team to ensure SOPs and policies
